The Hunting Wives Review

 The Hunting Wives

By May Cobb

Sophie O'Neill left behind an envy-inspiring career and the stressful, competitive life of big-city Chicago to settle down with her husband and young son in a small Texas town. It seems like the perfect life with a beautiful home in an idyllic rural community. But Sophie soon realizes that life is now too quiet, and she's feeling bored and restless.

Then she meets Margot Banks, an alluring socialite who is part of an elite clique secretly known as the Hunting Wives. Sophie finds herself completely drawn to Margot and swept into her mysterious world of late-night target practice and dangerous partying. As Sophie's curiosity gives way to full-blown obsession, she slips farther away from the safety of her family and deeper into this nest of vipers.

When the body of a teenage girl is discovered in the woods where the Hunting Wives meet, Sophie finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation and her life spiraling out of control.

Well...
Where to begin. I personally did not enjoy this one. I read it for a buddy read and I think that was the only reason I didn’t DNF it. So with that some spoilers are to come.

Sophie was suppose to be a thirty something women with a caring husband and a bouncing baby boy but came off as a wanna be high school girl who would literally do anything for popularity. She neglected her husband and baby to be fondle by a high school student because the most popular house wife was screwing her best friends high school son. Can we pause there and say EWWWWW 🤢

I’m sorry but I don’t want to read about underage screwing. That’s just a big no no. Especially when its in a book with no real depth or background to explain why or plot to move it along. It was just there as a way to have a ending. A wannabe shock value. It was done poorly in my perspective.

Other then that Sophia as a character really fell flat for me. I couldn’t understand why she was so obsessed with Margot. I don’t feel like I ever got a explanation as to why Sophie had this unhealthy attraction for Margot. She acted like she was applauded by what Margot did but then at the same time followed along. I don’t get it.

Last that I was like ummm k this book. Thrillers are known to have twist and turns. Right? Well seeing as the killing didn’t happen till way after half the book was through what kinds of twist can you get. One and really I still saw it coming. To me it was obvious.

So all in all Two stars but I’m not even sure why I gave the second one...
