Sunday Salon: It's My First And I AM So Glad To Be Here

Hi everyone, this is my very first Sunday Salon, so bear with me. I'm Teri, and I love the idea of Sunday Salon, the fact that we can share a bit more about our lives, get to know each other a bit better other than just by what we read. So I hope to be a regular.

I live in Oklahoma and it has been a hot one here. We have been back from vacation in San Diego, where it was a cool 76 degrees on most days. Since we have been home it has been right at 100 degrees and our humidity has been high so the heat index has been near 112. Needless to say, I have been staying in the house under the air conditioner.

You would think being in the house all day I would get some reading done right? WRONG. I seem to be doing everything but.

We live in a 100-year-old Craftsman Four Square and it has vinyl siding on it and has for about 45 years ( we think ). So it is time to replace it. It is yellow, which I don't mind, but they covered all the wood trim around the windows making it look very boring and plain. I would really like it to be a bit more historically correct, so my husband and I have been researching old Four Squares, color schemes, etc.

We have narrowed it down to three colors...a greyish blue called Nantucket, a wheat/tan color called Rye, and a sage green called Cypress. The people are coming Friday to measure the house and show us actual samples of the colors ( because you know they won't look anything like a piece of paper ), so we will make the final decision then. Well... I will, my husband has to be at work all day doing some kind of something he can't get out of.

Have you been watching the Olympics on TV? I am kind of sad that we no longer have cable and have only streaming, it makes it a bit harder to watch, but I have been able to see a few things. I find it funny that for myself, I love watching diving and swimming and I would never sit and watch it on TV at any other time. I did really enjoy the skateboarding and always the gymnastics.

I haven't been watching much else, just trying to catch up on the Shark Week shows I missed while we were gone. That is always my favorite time of the year ...

( And I seriously HAD to post this gif considering what I had just typed )

So about my reading...

I am slowly getting a few things to read. I have started The Lost Boys of Montauk, and am loving it, I just need the time to sit and finally get deep into it.

I am hoping to get it finished this week as I have two buddy reads coming up and as odd as it can be, I feel that I am behind on August 1!!!!

One last note...

Last week I participated in the Celadon Book Little Free Library drop for their book We Are The Brennans. ( I love doing these ) and when we went to put it in there, someone had vandalized the library, tearing off the words that said BOOKS and tearing off the door. Luckily my husband was with me and he went to work putting the door back on, sadly the letters had been completely damaged and there was nothing we could do about those.

My husband just came home from Braums ( we needed some frozen yogurt- YUM ) and passed it as it is just a few blocks from our house. They have taken it down and put up an old metal mailbox that is so cute. It is not ready to use yet, but I hope it will be harder to damage. I will never understand the people's need to just destroy something for no reason...

Hope everyone had a great Sunday xx

  1. That is REALLY hot. I hope things cool down some!

I've been watching the Olympics too. Lots of diving, plus rowing and cycling and surfing. Haha I've been watching way too much :) Now it's track and field. And same thing- why is it I never watch these sports any other time but the Olympics happen and all of a sudden I'm a fan?

    Love the shark!

  2. We seem to have a few details in common! I went to San Diego the first week in July and experienced the same return to hot weather as you did - above 100 here in Southern New Mexico! What a shock to the system!
Both of the books you mentioned have been added to my TBR list - they sound fabulous!
Sorry to hear about the Free Little Library....so sad...sigh...

  3. Hello from your Arkansas neighbor! We have been sweltering as well. i just took the trash out to the curb and it was horrible out.

I'm only watching the Prime Time Olympics coverage so I haven't really seen anything except gymnastics and swimming. Wish they'd show something else!!!

That is SO COOL that you live in a Craftsman!!! When I was still in L.A. I took many tours of those craftsmans in Pasadena.

I was raised in San Diego and North Park has some great ones. Occasionally on our trips back I will drive through the neighborhood in case I can get ideas for ours LOL

  5. I am your Texas neighbor, and I welcome you to the Sunday Salon! I am happy to meet you and I hope we will see you often.

How fun it is that you live in a Craftsman house.

I haven't read The Lost Boys of Mantauk, but it looks like a book I'd enjoy.

Vandalization of a Little Free Library? That's sad.

  6. Welcome to the Sunday Salon! We've escaped FL for the summer and are up in CT for another 6 weeks... loving every moment. The Lost Boys of Montauk sounds really good. One of daughters has friends who vacationed there every summer, so she's been several times. Bet she would be interested in this book, too!

  7. Welcome aboard from Toronto!
I'll admit, when I hear/see Montauk I think of the series The Affair!
I just put We Are the Brennans on hold at the library. My grandmother's maiden name was Brennan and it is my nephew's first name.
