Two Girls Read The Mortal Instruments: City Of Ashes Book Two

Last month we made it through City Of Ashes in our re-read of The Mortal Instruments..So let's get on with our thoughts about Book Two...

TEE'S THOUGHTS

This book, I never liked it as much as the first, but that certainly doesn't mean I hated it, because I don't. It's pretty much a continuation of book one. Jace's personality changes a bit as he struggles with the fact that Clary is his sister and Valentine is his father. Clary and Simon do have a chance at love, something that Simon has always wanted, however, I found them both boring, but then again, I am not a fan of either of them. I really just think that Clary needs to grow up, she just doesn't listen and it bothers the heck out of me. Someone will tell her not to do something, and I am sure there is always a good reason behind it, but what does she do?? She runs off and does it anyway. SHE IS BARELY A SHADOWHUNTER...she has no business thinking she knows everything, and she just ends up getting everyone in deeper trouble.

I hated the way Maryse treated Jace...don't mess with my man! She has practically raised this guy and has always trusted him, and then the moment she finds out that he is Valentine's son, she now doesn't trust him at all..what is up with that?

" Why can't you say that you trust me? I've lived with you almost half my life. Surely you must know me better than that "

" You sound so honest Jonathan. You always have......I've only met one person who could sound as persuasive as you..."

" You Mean my father "

I have canceled her...

along with the Inquisitor...we are not even getting started on her.

Valentine is up to no good...again, this time going after the Silent Brother's sword, and killing all of them in the process.

I loved the Seelie Court that they visited, the entire world was interesting, and the twisting of the truth that they talk in. Also, the truth comes out about Clary's feelings for Jace while they are there because the Queen was a bit evil...but I mean..we already knew this.

Jace confronts Alex about his feeling for Mangus, Alex still has feelings for Jace, but Mangus isn't so bad either ( this is such a soap opera really ). We also find out just how old Mangus is...

" I was alive when the Dead Sea was just a lake that was feeling a little poorly "

Probably my favorite line in the entire book. I think I like Mangus.

Then there was a big boat fight...why? Because...Ummm, Clary...

Until the next episode...

Well, Tee took it all out of my mouth. Can I say ditto.🤷🏻‍♀️
Clary needs to step back and learn her place as a newbie.
Simons and her relationship is yawn-worthy (friends or lovers) snore.
I would love to cancel Maryse
(How does an adult act like a child while the child is acting more like an adult)
(I know this happens but eee it chaffs my khakis😤)

Simon for that matter can be canceled also.
Why does he bug me so much?
Idk
I also haven’t figured out his place really in this story! like he really doesn’t contribute that much.

How did I forget so much since the first time I’ve read this series???

Also, I haven’t read past the mortal instruments so please someone tell me she has a book just for Mangus cuz of right now he’s my favorite and I really want to get into his story. Preferably with Alec in tow.

Let us know if you read this series and which character/characters would like to have canceled?

 Dearest Book Buddie...

XO Tee
