Last month we made it through City Of Glass in our re-read of The Mortal Instruments..So let's get on with our thoughts about Book Three ( a whole bunch of things happened in this book )...
Ro here. So it looks like I’m starting off this review. Well first book three took me soooooooo long to get into. I would read a chapter have to put it down. Make faces, pull hair, chug some wine, and tell myself you can’t DNF at chapter 2 in book three. I really had trouble with Clary. Can we say spoiled Brat.
Ok enough about my annoyance with Clary because I’m sure you’ll hear me gripe about her in all of these reviews. I don’t see her character growing but I really don’t remember a lot about these books so there are possibilities. Even though there was action happening throughout I really didn’t start caring until maybe chapter 16. I have no clue why I really couldn’t get into book three. I felt like I didn’t even know what was happening. Clary's real brother appears to act nice then turns into a monster. Meaning Jace isn’t her brother! Yay!! They can be together. Ok then Clary’s mother is awake and… oh and Luke is staying in that other world that I can’t remember. So we can say I was not in the right mind for this one. Let’s hope book four grips my attention. I don’t have a lot of personal stuff happening so good chance I could have better luck. Also, I won't have to listen to Clary and Jace pinning for each other anymore. Whisper: “I really think it was cuz Magnus wasn’t the main star and I want to just read his story”
~TEE'S THOUGHTS~
So.....
You know I am going to have loads to say on this book, I mean loads of stuff went down in it..so...
SPOILERS
I certainly did not hate the book, but you know Jace was there for me. I understand Ro, I would probably feel the same if the book was all about Magnus ( yeah I know that is coming in December LOL )
ALSO...
In fairness I think Cassandra Clare should have just stopped the series right here, I didn't need whatever was going on in the next book that pissed me off so badly...but that is another month so just know I would have been very happy for the series to be over and done with after this book.
Not saying nothing exciting happened here because it did, a lot happened ( which is why I think we should have ended it LOL )
I do like the world that Cassandra Clare has created in this series, I loved her descriptions of Idaris, it seemed like a magical place and if I were a Shadowhunter I would certainly spend my time there instead of New York City.
In my opinion Sebastian made this book, his evilness was epic....and well....I found it a bit sexy also. Oh hush, I love a bad boy, and Seb ( this is what he will forever be known because I am to lazy to type his entire name ) he is a bad bad boy. I knew he was trouble the moment he walked in...
I would like to duct tape Clary's mouth shut and maybe tape her to a wall somewhere. Y'all know I love Jace, but Clary...dang girl, she walks around like a love sick puppy and it bothers me. Also I do not like the way Clare writes Jace when he is around Clary, he is the same way and I just ...I don't know...he never hit me as that kind of person. BUT....shhhh I did snicker a bit when Jace pulled away from Clary in this book...he told her she messes everything up...YES JACE SHE DOES... then told her to shut up and go home. I know why he did it, but dang I laughed and cheered just a bit to much.
Simon is in jail...and Jace goes to pay a visit ...Simon isn't happy to see him and of course Jace has something to say about it...
" You're not happy to see me then?.....I have to say I am surprised, I've been told my presence brightens up any room..."
It is why he is my book boyfriend...
BUT...
The best scene in the book is Alex coming to rescue Magnus and literally stops fighting demons to have a tiff with him...
" Alec? " Magnus was staring at him...." Did you just...did you just save my life? "
" You never called me back.....I called you so many times and you never called me back..."
" Your city is under attack, the wards have been broken and the streets are full of demons, and you want to know why I havent' called you..."
Alex is such a girl, but I love you's are finally said ( claps and gushes )
Jace thinks he is half demon, because him and Clary found a half dead angel in a secret room and he gave Clary visions of Valentine ( Val from now on ) taking demon blood from some lady to use on his unborn child ( Jace ), this is why Jace is so offish with Clary, he isn't worthy of her if he has demon blood ( eye roll ).
BUT...
The demon blood given to the unborn child will make it super strong and fast. Now... remember that the wards guarding Idaris will not let demons enter the city and they can not be brought down by demons either, but somehow they are brought down and all these demons enter the city for a big fight...So how brought the wards down? Well....who just happens to be super strong and fast and who only has half demon blood so he could still enter then city and take down the wards?? Jace you say? WRONG...Seb...Seb is Valentines son not Jace...sooo Jace and Clary can finally kiss and canoodle without it being all gross and illegal.
Valentine goes to the Clave and gives them a speech worthy of him trying to run for President about how they are being given a certain amount of time to follow him before he releases the demons ...of course they are released anyway and all hell breaks loose.
Alec and Mangus kiss....
Jace and Seb have a huge fight and Jace kills Seb
Valentine kills Jace ( I was in mourning for a short time ) but the angel that Val released because he has all the mortal weapons doesn't like Val and kills him, then plays genie in a bottle ( no not the song ...) and gives Clary a wish...three guesses what she wishes for...Yep suddenly Jace is back alive and they vow to keep his death a secret... I knew he would live, I mean we have three more books to get through right?
The book ends with Val's funeral, and everyone feels safe and secure again....

It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. This week's subject is: Books on My Spring 2025 to-Read List Listen, I will be honest, I am a mood reader. I do make TBR Lists for every season, etc, but I rarely manage to read everything, or sometimes anything off of them...But here is my list which isn't really a Spring list, but what I'd like to get read before I start on my Beach Read craze! Meet Toadling. On the day of her birth, she was stolen from her family by the fairies, but she grew up safe and loved in the warm waters of faerieland. Once an adult though, the fae ask a favor of Toadling: return to the human world and offer a blessing of protection to a newborn child. Simple, right? But nothing with fairies is ever simple. Centuries later, a knight approaches a towering...
