Book Review: The Hawthorne School by Sylvie Perry

SUMMARY: Claudia Morgan is overwhelmed. She's a single parent trying the best that she can, but her four-year-old son, Henry, is a handful--for her and for his preschool. When Claudia hears about a school with an atypical teaching style near her Chicagoland home, she has to visit. The Hawthorne School is beautiful and has everything she dreams of for Henry: time to play outside, music, and art. The head of the school, Zelma, will even let Claudia volunteer to cover the cost of tuition. The school is good for Henry: his "behavioral problems" disappear, and he comes home subdued instead of rageful. But there's something a bit off about the school, its cold halls, and its enigmatic headmistress. When Henry brings home stories of ceremonies in the woods and odd rules, Claudia's instincts tell her that something isn't quite right, and she begins to realize she's caught in a web of manipulations and power.  The author's work as a psychotherapist, with a foc

Convincing Anh that Olive is dating and well on her way to a happily ever after was always going to take more than hand-wavy Jedi mind tricks: Scientists require proof. So, like any self-respecting biologist, Olive panics and kisses the first man she sees.  That man is none other than Adam Carlsen, a young hotshot professor--and well-known ass. Which is why Olive is positively floored when Stanford's reigning lab tyrant agrees to keep her charade a secret and be her fake boyfriend. But when a big science conference goes haywire, putting Olive's career on the Bunsen burner, Adam surprises her again with his unyielding support and ev

SUMMARY: When Lux McAllister and her boyfriend, Nico, are hired to sail two women to a remote island in the South Pacific, it seems like the opportunity of a lifetime. Stuck in a dead-end job in Hawaii, and longing to travel the world after a family tragedy, Lux is eager to climb on board  The Susannah  and set out on an adventure. She’s also quick to bond with their passengers, college best friends Brittany and Amma. The two women say they want to travel off the beaten path. But like Lux, they may have other reasons to be seeking an escape. Shimmering on the horizon after days at sea, Meroe Island is every bit the paradise the foursome expects, despite a mysterious history of shipwrecks, cannibalism, and even rumors of murder. But what they don’t expect is to discover another boat already anchored off Meroe’s sandy beaches. The owners of the  Azure Sky,  Jake and Eliza, are a true golden couple: gorgeous, laidback, and if their sleek catamaran and well-stocked bar are any indication

Book Review: The Collective by Alison Gaylin

GOODREADS SUMMARY: Just how far will a grieving mother go to right a tragic wrong? Camille Gardner is a grieving—and angry—mother who, five years after her daughter’s death, is still obsessed with the privileged young man she believes to be responsible. When her rash actions attract the attention of a secret group of women—the collective— Camille is drawn into a dark web where these mothers share their wildly different stories of loss as well as their desire for justice in a world where privilege denies accountability and perpetrators emerge unscathed. Fueled by mutual rage, these women orchestrate their own brand of justice through precise, anonymous, complexly plotted and perfectly executed revenge killings, with individual members completing a specific and integral task in each plan. As Camille struggles to comprehend whether this is a role-playing exercise or terrifying reality, she must decide if these women are truly avenging angels or monsters. Becoming more deeply enmeshed in

Two Girls Read The Mortal Instruments: Book 4 City Of Fallen Angels

Image
We've made it through book four. This is the last book I have read in this series so everything from here on is new to me. I am excited...I think ...LOL...anyway...on to our thoughts TEE'S THOUGHTS I will start out with two thoughts... I now remember why I stopped reading these books...I was mad at Cassandra Clare for stringing us along ( I am not going to say why, but it has to do with the ending ). I felt that she was leaking me for money...I mean, we all know this series could have ended with the City Of Glass and it would have wrapped up just fine...BUT NOOOOOO. The second one is...It took forever to get to the twist and climax of this book. SLOW READING.  I know, I don't like Simon. I mean I don't hate him, but I don't want to read 3/4 of a book about him. He as a secondary character is plenty, but ...it was just too much for me haha. No matter how much Clare writes and try to convince me that Simon is now a hot vampire and a Player...it won't happen. He wi

So let's get on with what I am reading now... CITY OF LOST SOULS BY CASSANDRA CLARE We took a bit of a break reading The Mortal Instruments, this month, but I have started again, for November with the fifth book. I hadn't read past the fourth when they first came out so this is all new territory to me. SUMMARY: What price is too high to pay, even for love? When Jace and Clary meet again, Clary is horrified to discover that the demon Lilith’s magic has bound her beloved Jace together with her e
