Book Review: The Night Shift by Alex Finlay

Image
SUMMARY: It’s New Year’s Eve 1999. Y2K is expected to end in chaos: planes falling from the sky, elevators plunging to earth, world markets collapsing. A digital apocalypse. None of that happens. But at a Blockbuster Video in Linden, New Jersey, four teenage girls working the night shift are attacked. Only one survives. Police quickly identify a suspect who flees and is never seen again. Fifteen years later, in the same town, four teenage employees working late at an ice cream store are attacked, and again only one makes it out alive. Both surviving victims recall the killer speaking only a few final words...  “Goodnight, pretty girl.” In the aftermath, three lives intersect the survivor of the Blockbuster massacre who’s forced to relive her tragedy; the brother of the original suspect, who’s convinced the police have it wrong; and the FBI agent, who’s determined to solve both cases. On a collision course toward the truth, all three lives will forever be changed, and not everyone will

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? a place to meet up and share what you have been, and are about to be reading over the week. It’s a great post to organize yourself. It’s an opportunity to visit and comment and er… add to your groaning TBR pile! This meme by  Kathryn at   The Book Date -WHAT I HAVE READ- How ever slow I am reading I have been able to get a few books finished. I think when I finish up the month of February I will have read maybe four books! But I have enjoyed taking my time with my reading, I have been enjoying it more, so I am not even going to complain! Here is what I have finished lately since my last post... ANATOMY BY DANA SCHWARTS This book left time a bit disappointed...kind of. It caught my attention because it said it was a " gothic " tale...I love my gothic lit, but it just wasn't. It actually had none of the elements of a gothic story whatsoever. BUT what it did have was a wonderful story of an upper-class girl in the 1800's that fought to

London quartet  Mylar  today announce their  debut EP  Elsewhere .  Along with the announcement they have also shared the first track from the four-track EP titled " Plastic Champ " The EP  explores the universal vulnerabilities of their internal selves and those around them, surrounded by a world spinning at a different rate.   “Most of the lyrics are about people feeling trapped by circumstance, or having a sense of time running away, or pivotal moments where you’re hyper-aware of the direction things will take,” the band explain.   “Plastic Champ” explores the limited language and images around masculinity.   “ This song came together really quickly from a cartoonish synth line from our drummer Rob ”, explains Tom Short, the band’s lead vocalist and the writer of the song’s lyrics.   “I got the idea of a narrator who’s on the run from their own lies which is why the vocals feel a bit frantic. There’s an important discussion around the bad aspects of men’s behavior but I

Two Girls Monthly Picks...Four Books Hitting The Shelves In February We Want To Read

Who is ready for a new month? I know I am! Is it only me who felt like January was a LONG month that would never end?? We found a few books that we would like to get our hands on this month, BUT...we are both trying really hard NOT to buy books this year and read off our shelves...like everyone we know, they are full! Not to say we won't sneak on down to the local book store or do some late-night shopping via Amazon, we did say we are TRYING! THE PARIS APARTMENT BY LUCY FOLEY Hardcover ,  320 pages Expected publication: February 22nd 2022 by William Morrow I really enjoyed Foley's last book The Guest List and I have yet to read the Hunting Party, but I do want to read The Paris Apartment and see if she can keep my interest. She’s broke and alone, and she’s just left her job under less than ideal circumstances. Her half-brother Ben didn’t

Book Review: The Portrait Of A Mirror by A. Natasha Joukovsky

GOODREADS SUMMARY: Wes and Diana are the kind of privileged, well-educated, self-involved New Yorkers you may not want to like but can't help wanting to like you. With his boyish good looks, blue-blood pedigree, and the recent tidy valuation of his tech startup, Wes would have made any woman weak in the knees—any woman, that is, except perhaps his wife. Brilliant to the point of cunning, Diana possesses her own arsenal of charms, handily deployed against Wes in their constant wars of will and rhetorical sparring. Vivien and Dale live in Philadelphia, but with ties to the same prep schools and management consulting firms as Wes and Diana, they’re of the same ilk. With a wedding date on the horizon and carefully curated life of coupledom, Vivien and Dale make a picture-perfect pair on Instagram. But when Vivien becomes a visiting curator at The Metropolitan Museum of Art just as Diana is starting a new consulting project in Philadelphia, the two couples’ lives cross and tangle. It’s

I will admit, however, that it was a bit different than my usual reads. It was fun and dark, and a bit sexy. I gave it a solid four stars. Summary: “When I was a child, I loved old men, and I could tell that they also loved me.” And so we are introduced to our deliciously incisi
