Stacking The Shelves February 22
Stacking the Shelves, hosted by Reading Reality, is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, whether physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in a physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts, and, of course, ebooks!
We spent most of the week stuck at home this week due to an ice storm, but on Friday we were finally able to get out. My husband and Atlas love to go eat breakfast, so we went and ate, then went and bought a few things like laundry soap etc.. at Walmart. While there we roamed through the book section and we bought a few books ( we need go to this section and surprisingly they had a fairly good selection. )
This is what I bought while at Walmart...
Gothikana has been on my wish list for a while now and Walmart had a beautiful special edition that I could not resist. It is actually the first special edition I have bought. I loved the title pages...
I am sure there are more fancy editions out there in the book world, but I loved the moodiness of this.
GOTHIKANA BY RUNYX
An outcast her entire life, Corvina Clemm is left adrift after losing her mother. When she receives the admission letter from the mysterious University of Verenmore, she accepts it as a sign from the universe. The last thing she expects though is an old, secluded castle on top of a mountain riddled with secrets, deceit, and death.
An enigma his entire life, Vad Deverell likes being a closed book but knowing exactly everything that happens in the university. A part-time professor working on his thesis, Vad has been around long enough to know the dangers the castle possesses. And he knows the moment his path crosses with Corvina, she's dangerous to everything that he is.
They shouldn't have caught each other's eye. They cannot be. But a chill-inducing century-old mystery forces them to collide. People have disappeared every five years over the past century, Corvina is getting clues to unraveling it all, and Vad needs to keep an eye on her.

I cannot lit that I saw my darling Dreadful thing right next to it and loved the cover...so I threw it into my cart... I know...we are not suppose to do that..but I bet like me. more people do it than admit to it. Sometimes it works...sometimes it doesn't.
MY DARLING DREADFUL THING BY JOHANNA VAN VEEN
Roos Beckman has a spirit companion only she can see. Ruth—strange, corpse-like, and dead for centuries—is the light of Roos' life. That is, until the wealthy young widow Agnes Knoop visits one of Roos' backroom seances, and the two strike up a connection.
Soon, Roos is whisked away to the crumbling estate Agnes inherited upon the death of her husband, where an ill woman haunts the halls, strange smells drift through the air, and mysterious stone statues reside in the family chapel. Something dreadful festers in the manor, but still, the attraction between Roos and Agnes is undeniable.
Then, someone is murdered.
Poor, alone, and with a history of 'hysterics', Roos is the obvious culprit. With her sanity and innocence in question, she'll have to prove who—or what—is at fault or lose everything she holds dear.

Atlas also bought a book ...he loves Five Nights At Freddy's and found one that is similar to the Choose Your Own Adventure books.
Also we both received some book mail this week...
My family is Jewish, and there is a program that is offered to the children called PJ Library. It is a cool program that send a book once a month to the kids for free. They always have Jewish values, or are Holiday themed books. When they are small they get picture books, but this year because Atlas turned 9, he gets to pick his book. It works something like BOM, he gets an email and chooses the book he wants. This month he picked a graphic novel...
I received another book from my wish list from my Book Birthday Club...
I have a love hate relationship with Grady Hendrix. I either love his books or hate them, but I refuse not to read them!
WITCHCRAFT FOR WAYWARD GIRLS BY GRADY HENDRIX
They call them wayward girls. Loose girls. Girls who grew up too fast. And they’re sent to the Wellwood Home in St. Augustine, Florida, where unwed mothers are hidden by their families to have their babies in secret, give them up for adoption, and most important of all, to forget any of it ever happened.
Fifteen-year-old Fern arrives at the home in the sweltering summer of 1970, pregnant, terrified and alone. Under the watchful eye of the stern Miss Wellwood, she meets a dozen other girls in the same predicament. There’s Rose, a hippie who insists she’s going to find a way to keep her baby and escape to a commune. And Zinnia, a budding musician who knows she’s going to go home and marry her baby’s father. And Holly, a wisp of a girl, barely fourteen, mute and pregnant by no-one-knows-who.
Everything the girls eat, every moment of their waking day, and everything they’re allowed to talk about is strictly controlled by adults who claim they know what’s best for them. Then Fern meets a librarian who gives her an occult book about witchcraft, and power is in the hands of the girls for the first time in their lives. But power can destroy as easily as it creates, and it’s never given freely. There’s always a price to be paid…and it’s usually paid in blood.

That is all I got this week, be sure to link me to your new stash, it is my favorite way to find new books!
I keep going back and forth on the new Grady Hendrix book because I have such a love/hate relationship with his books. Some I love and some I can't stand. I'll end up reading it, I'm sure. Happy Reading!
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy all your new books! Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your new books! Wal-Mart's selection might be small, but it is varied. I have bought books there before too, plus, they are normally a bit cheaper than the publishing price.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed Witchcraft for Wayward Girls. Enjoy your books!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fun haul! I need to pick up the Grady Hendrix -- not for me, but for my wife!
