Sunday Salon: Shushan Street Fair and Samurai

The Sunday Salon is hosted by Readerbuzz

Hi everyone! I missed last week because boy things just seem to be so busy. I started out behind on blogging and just never caught up. I tried to do everything in one or at least the night before, but neither happened. Anyway, enough of being busy talk, we all are, so I am not complaining.

Last Sunday we had our Purim celebration at the Synagogue. We started the day out reading the traditional Megillah of Esther, and then all the fun began with a small fair that was styled in a kind of Shushan Street Fair, with fortune tellers, face painting, a small petting zoo, and of course some great food.

Atlas at the entrance to the fair. It was fun to walk through and see all the fun inside.

Food trucks with Veggie Corn Dogs, Snowcones, Cotton Candy, and the usual fair foods

Loads of Hamantasan, the traditional Purim food shaped like Haman's hat. My husband spent three hours with a group making and baking over 500 of them the Sunday before the fair.

Then yesterday, Friday, we went to the local museum which was having a special exhibit on Samurai, which my husband has been interested in for years. It was the first day of Atlas's spring break so it was a pretty neat start to his break. The pieces are owned by one family and we did not even see all of them, most are still at the permanent home in Dallas, which we might take a trip down to see.

They had a lot of things for the kids, like some drawing on a Buddha Board Screen, if you haven't ever seen a Buddha board you should check them out, they are pretty cool. Both my kids have one and we bought Atlas one in the museum store.

After touring the event, instead of walking around the rest of the museum, we are members so can go anytime for free, it was a great day to spend some time out in the gardens and swing.

Staying on the theme with the Samurai, Atlas decided the best place to eat lunch would be PF Chang's

Here is an extra picture of this morning when he pulled out his Buddha Board and started painting

That is it for our week, we are headed to a vinyl record show tomorrow, Shul is out for Spring Break, and my husband collects vinyl. We are hoping to take Atlas on a few day trips during the week. We usually go on a trip, but this summer he is going to a two-week sleep away camp for the first time, and then our regular vacation afterwards, so thought we'd stick close to home this week.

See ya'll next Sunday, hope your week is full of light and love, and drop your link so I can see what you have been up to.

  1. We also made Hamantaschen this week, but no carnival (we’re over the age for that). Looks like you had a lot of fun.
