Book Review: Karma's A Beach by Samatha Chase

GOODREADS SUMMARY:

It’s bad enough I have to fly home for a funeral.
Not just any funeral either. My ex’s funeral. Where I have to give the eulogy.

Let’s just say he was an ex for a reason, and I’d much rather write a speech about his flaws than wax poetic about what a great person he was. But I just couldn’t bring myself to say no to his mom when she asked.

So here we are.

I just have to get through the funeral and then it’s a whole month of relaxing on the beach with my oldest friends.

But of course, nothing ever goes according to plan.

Entitled passengers, flight delays, lost luggage. Everything that could wrong went wrong. And I might have had a little too much wine and spilled my entire life story to the man in the seat next to me. The incredibly nice, incredibly sexy man sitting next to me.

It’s a good thing I’ll likely never see him again.
Or so I thought.

The stranger who awkwardly comforts me at my ex’s funeral? Airplane guy.
And I’ll give you one guess about who shows up at the beach house.

Kill. Me. Now.

This was supposed to be a relaxing vacation, but now I have to worry about how attracted I am to a man who knows entirely too much about me and only seems to catch me at my absolute worst.

Or maybe I’ll get lucky and he’ll be into hot messes.

TEE'S THOUGHTS

Lately I have been wanting books that feel fun and breezy, maybe a character that is a bit of a mess, like me! It's been my escape since this summer when I went on a Summer Of Love, and only read romance, and I find myself still reaching for them. Karma Is A Beach by Samatha Chase caught my eye for exactly that reason, and it turned out to be the kind of story that you can spend the day reading.

Karma is a Beach captures the feeling of stepping onto a sun lit porch with a cold drink and waiting for a bit of town gossip to unfold. It has the small town charm that I find most romances have, a bit of chaos that makes it fun, and a bit of " Oh no what have I done ", so it keeps you turning the pages.

Set against a sunny breezy coastal backdrop, the story drops the reader in a community that will feel familiar, leaving you with the feeling that you have been there. It is full of the usual locals, plenty of gossip, and the salty air of a beach setting that I so love.

The story centers on Mia, who is trying to rebuild her life after a few messy dating mishaps. You will find yourself rooting for her, and then the next minute want to shake some sense into her. The secondary characters all have vivid personalities that fit the town perfectly. Most are friends and close family, who are not afraid to stir the pot a bit. The interactions with Mia really help build the story and gives us sweet moments and some great banter, that occasionally will have you laughing at the situations.

The writing in the story is warm and easy, without feeling too deep, even with the situation that Mia is up against. Predictable? Yes. I find most romances are, but isn't that why we love them so much? We want that perfect ending where two people fall in love.

This book is light, bright and a lot of fun and easy to finish in a weekend.
