Project Hail Mary

Goodreads Summary

RYLAND GRACE is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission—and if he fails, humanity and Earth itself will perish.

Except that right now, he doesn’t know that. He can’t even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it.

All he knows is that he’s been asleep for a very, very long time. And he’s just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

His crewmates dead, his memories fuzzily returning, Ryland realizes that an impossible task now confronts him. Hurtling through space on this tiny ship, it’s up to him to puzzle out an impossible scientific mystery—and conquer an extinction-level threat to our species.

And with the clock ticking down and the nearest human being light-years away, he’s got to do it all alone.

Or does he?

An irresistible interstellar adventure as only Andy Weir could imagine it, Project Hail Mary is a tale of discovery, speculation, and survival to rival The Martian—while taking us to places it never dreamed of going.

What did I think?

My online Book Club called Thiccbookclub read Project Hail Mary this month. Just so everyone knows, I don't give stars to books because I don't feel like it's fair to the authors. I am not a big fan of science fiction. I thought there was way too many scientific questions and equations that I got extremely confused and lost on. I was definitely skimming those sections. However, I was invested in the plot. I thought Rocky was such a cute character that helped relieve some of the stress of them going on this suicide mission. I thought Stratt went too far by forcing Grace to be on the mission. They all knew that the astronauts would die and I saw it as she was murdering him. It grades on my nerves when people justify their acts by saying its for the greater good. Overall, I think the plot was great, but the author lost me with all the scientific parts. It was a good book, but I wouldn't read it again.
