Book Review: Deception by T.J. Blake ( Audio )

 GOODREADS SUMMARY:

“Through the stark and leafless trees, I see her.

I remember the first day I saw her; an instant attraction. I think she’s beautiful. She has such pensive blue eyes; they remind me of a blue sky right before the sun descends. Every time I see her I want to talk to her, I want to get to know her, and I want to be her friend.
She usually completes the lower woodland walk in six minutes and forty-two seconds; she misses the deeper woodlands and goes home, I believe.

I walk down the road at the same speed as her. She reaches the crossroads at the bottom of the road, looks both ways, and then jogs across into the garden of a house. I stop walking and concentrate on which house is hers.

I can’t stare too long but I am intrigued already, I will come back.”

T. J. Blake's psychological thriller, 'Deception - A Love of Lies', will not let you look at passing dog walkers the same

TEE'S THOUGHTS

Deception by TJ Blake is a dark suspenseful thriller that centers around the lies of the two main characters. Billy has lost his wife and had gone into a deep depression, he now gets joy from walking his dog Ella in the woods near his house. He re-routs his walks when he notices a woman, Eve, in the woods that he would like to get to know, wanting to casually bump into her. The two of them meet and soon they are in a relationship. Sometime later a man unknown to Billy shows up and says he is Eve's lover and that Billy is to leave her alone....and this is where I stop...because saying much else will give to much away.

While reading this book you will question both characters. Question motives, question if they are telling the truth...so many things. The story starts out a bit slow, but as it builds it is full of twists, mind games, and strange behaviors. It is a book that will not only make you question bt it will make you think, can you really ever know the person you are in love with.

I felt that both characters were a bit off in their actions. Billy felt a little creepy to me with his watching of Eve before he got to know her, and Eve, she just kept getting more strange as the story developed. For me it was part of this kind of unraveling that helped drive the story forward, and kept you invested.

Blakes writing was good, there was loads of emotion and suspense, and honestly you just want to keep reading just to see where this relationship will end up.

I listened to the audio book, and the narrator had an English accent, but he spoke clear and precise making it easy for you to understand him, even when I sped the book up so I could get to the end wanting to figure it out! Speaking of the ending, it wraps up all your questions, but I felt it fell a bit flat for me, however many people have said it was great for them. I still think it is a worthy book to read if you like suspense in a book. I give it a solid 4.

Comments

  1. I love the premise of this book! I also really like listen to thrillers as audiobooks so I might just have to look it up on Audible. Great review!

  2. It sounds so creepy! Walking in the woods is usually fun, but having a strange follower is not.
