Book Review: Summer Island by Natalie Normann
Blurb
Summer Island off the coast of Norway was the place London chef Jack Greene should have been from. He’s an outsider in the community that should have been his family, and now he’s setting foot on the strange land he has inherited for the first time.
Ninni Toft, his nearest neighbor, has come to the island to mend her broken heart. With her wild spirit and irrepressible enthusiasm, she shows city-boy Jack the simple pleasures of island life – and what it means to belong. To a place. To a people. To one person in particular…
Home is where the heart is but is Jack’s heart with the career he left behind in London, or on the wind-swept shores of Summer Island, with Ninni?
TEE'S THOUGHTS:
City chef Jack inherits a farm on Summer Island, he has no desire to stay on the island, but then he meets Ninni who is there to mend her broken heart....
Summer Island was the perfect end of summer read, it was sweet and so easy to read due to Normann's clear writing and of course the fantastic story she has woven.
Full of quirky characters, I enjoyed all of them, and they all added so much depth to the story with their personalities. But probably what I enjoyed most was the Norweigan setting which Normann brought to life for me with her beautiful descriptions. There was the added bonus of learning some of their customs and culture, which honestly was all new to me.
BUT...
Then there was the food. Remember Jack is a chef and oh my did the author's descriptions have my mouth watering the entire time.
If you look for books with meet-cutes, foreign locals, and sweet romance you need to pick up Summer Island, it is a perfect read.
