The Sunday Salon: It is High Holiday Season

The Sunday Salon is hosted by Readerbuzz

Ooof it seems like it's been a while since I was here. This month has been crazy busy, it is High Holiday for us Jewish people and it has kept me busy. If you don't know anything about the Jewish High Holiday it starts with Rosh Hashanna which begun Monday the 6th, after that is Yom Kippur which started on Wednesday the 15th ( this is the holiest day in the Jewish religion. In between those days, we had Kaparot

at our synagogue we use homing pigeons that we release to cast off our sorrow, this isn't done at every synagogue or temple, it is just how we do it. We also take part in Tashlich which we cleaned up a park as a mitzvah. We still have to get through Sukkot which is on the 22 and Simchat Torah on the 28th but it has been keeping us busy!

It is still hot here, but on Wednesday we are expecting a cold front, and when I say cold front I mean the tempt will fall down into the 80s, but I will take it... unfortunately it looks like the weather will go back up again later in the week. I am always ready for cool or cold weather, I wasn't made for the hot!

The kids have started back to school...Ry went to a different school starting the 8th grade...

And Atlas began Kindergarten, however,

he is still at the same school he has been at for two years...

We have started working on our butler's pantry, but so far all we have gotten done was repairing the plaster ceiling, but after the holiday we will be able to work on it a bit more than we are now. They have ordered our siding and the rest of the supplies for the outside of the house, so hopefully in a month or so they will start on it. It is all dependent on the manufacture and if they can get everything quickly. It still amazes me how many things are affected by the pandemic still. There are times when I go grocery shopping and still have trouble finding certain things.

Reading is starting to pick up, which I am glad I miss having time to just relax with a book. Right now I am reading a cozy mystery that is a fun Fall/Halloween themed called Be My Ghost

I am hoping to be done with it tonight. Still haven't figured out what I will read next, but I will figure it out.

Ok, it is Saturday night and Hallmark has been having Fall movies on and I always love them...so I am off to watch a new one ....cheesy I know but I love their holiday movies, especially Christmas ones...yeah, I know...I celebrate Hanukah, but I still love the secular parts of Christmas.

Til next week!

Be sure to drop your link in the comments so I can come by to visit and see what you have been up to this past week!

  1. That’s so cool what you do with the homing pigeons. I learned something reading your post today about the Jewish holidays.
There are times I wish I’d just combined my book blog with my foodie/life blog but keeping them separate seemed to make sense at the time.

Thank you for your nice comment on my blog for Sunday Salon! It’s nice to meet you.

  2. Love Hallmark movies! I remember one that had both Christmas and Hanukah and I thought it was great :) Be My Ghost looks cute, especially for the season. Happy reading and good luck to the kiddos in school.

  3. Thanks for telling about the Jewish holidays! I loved hearing about how you celebrate.

Be My Ghost looks like the perfect read to get you in the fall mood.

I love Hallmark movies, especially the mysteries, but any will do 🙂.

    Have a good week!

  4. We shop at Trader Joes because they carry Kosher meats and they still mask and restrict the amount of people in their store, if it weren't for that I would be ordering also. We rarely get out, the virus has still been heavy here where we live

  5. Wow, you are so busy. Your boys are adorable, I enjoy the back to school pictures. That is a very cool tradition of releasing homing pigeons.

  6. Thank you for the updates about this important high Jewish holiday. I love the symbolism of releasing the pigeons. We all need to be reminded that we can cast off our sorrows, giving them to God. Releasing us from the burden of carrying them. Thanks for visiting my blog. Since I posted about COVID, we got our tests back and we are negative. First thing we did was go to COSTCO. Ha!

  7. It is fascinating to learn about the High Holidays. I'm especially intrigued with releasing pigeons to release your sorrows. It is a beautiful thing to do.

It's funny that you say you are made for cold, not hot. I'm just the opposite. It's probably good that we live where we live!

So glad your kids are starting back to school. It's all been so hard on kids.

I like the sound of Be My Ghost. I hope you find something that is just as great next.
