Book Review: Dear Santa by Debbie Macomber

 SUMMARY:

Lindy Carmichael isn't feeling particularly joyful when she returns home to Wenatchee, Washington, for Christmas. The man she thought was "the one" has cheated on her with her best friend, and she feels completely devoid of creativity in her graphic-design job. Not even carolers or Christmas cookies can cheer her up--but Lindy's mother, Ellen, remembers an old tradition that might lift her daughter's spirits.

Reading through a box of childhood letters to Santa and reminiscing about what she'd wished for as a young girl may be just the inspiration Lindy needs. With Ellen's encouragement, she decides to write a new letter to Santa, one that will encourage her to have faith and believe just as she'd done all those years ago. Little does Lindy know that this exercise in gratitude will cause her wishes to unfold before her in miraculous ways. And, thanks to some fateful twists of Christmas magic--especially an unexpected connection with a handsome former classmate--Lindy ultimately realizes that there is truly no place like home for the holidays.

TEE'S THOUGHTS

As a lover of Christmas Reads, I can not imagine not having a Christmas book by Debbie Macomber, I look forward to them every year, as does my mother, who I pass them on to. I  think all her books are great, but her Christmas stories to me are just lovely.

Her newest holiday treat Dear Santa is no different. The story is based around Lindy Carmichael who comes home for the holidays. She is feeling down and a bit insecure about her job in Seattle and she was also dumped by her boyfriend who was cheating on her with her roommate.

Once Lindy gets home her mother digs out the letters she has written to Santa Claus over the years, to show her that what she wrote had always come true, and that she just needs to believe. She also suggests she write another one hoping it will make her feel better and bring some of the magic of Christmas back to Lindy’s life.

I loved watching Lindy re-discover the magic of Christmas and love with old friends and a former classmate from long ago. She was a good hearted and warm character, who just seemed to be a little lost. Her mother, had a small part in the story, but I loved the feel of her, backing cookies, keeping letters Lindy had written to Santa from long ago, she seemed like the perfect mom for a Christmas story.

Debbie Macomber always makes you smile with her stories, and her romances are tender and clean. They really help uplift you as you read, and so many times in this day and age we need that.

Dear Santa is the perfect walk down memory lane with old friends and new ones, it reinforces  the meaning of Christmas and will have you believing in Santa once again.
