Book Review: The Woman In Me by Britney Spears

GOODREADS SUMMARY:

The Woman in Me is a brave and astonishingly moving story about freedom, fame, motherhood, survival, faith, and hope.

In June 2021, the whole world listened as Britney Spears spoke in open court. The impact of sharing her voice—her truth—was undeniable, and it changed the course of her life and the lives of countless others. The Woman in Me reveals for the first time her incredible journey—and the strength at the core of one of the most outstanding performers in pop music history.

Written with remarkable candor and humor, Spears’s groundbreaking book illuminates the enduring power of music and love—and the importance of a woman telling her own story, on her own terms, at last.

TEE'S THOUGHTS

The book a lot of us have been patiently waiting for!

I have always been a Britney Spears fan, there was that time when Pop music ruled the airwaves with Boy Bands and girl groups, and of course the Queen of them all Britney Spears.

I followed all the highs and lows of her career and her life, even past the expiration date of my love for pop music, it was both fascinating and sad, but no matter what I saw in the media I remained a fan, and many times I felt that the media was cruel to her.

The one thing that really disappointed me about this book, was that I listened to the audio. Michele Williams did a fantastic job reading it- but I felt Britney's Southern Accent was needed. So really that has nothing to do with the book itself and it is just my thoughts.

Britney laid it all out for us, she did not hold back, hopefully, it was somewhat therapeutic for her, because she certainly had a lot to unpack. Throughout her life and career, she was treated horribly by the people she loved and trusted, from her own family to the men in her life, to her work team, and I felt especially the media who constantly hounded her. She was these people's cash flow, and nothing more.

There was certainly plenty of emotion in this book, it made me understand why she did not narrate it. I would never lay my life out for the world to read, and let's face it, I have nothing going on anyone would want to read, but, like her, we all have a few moments in our lives that would break down while attempting to tell the story.

There is a lot of name-dropping in this book...Madonna, Christina, Colin Ferrel, and probably what we all wanted ...Justin Timberlake. She does not hold back when talking about her love and relationship with Justin. Y'all, young love is hard, can you imagine it playing out in front of the world. I was never really a Justin fan, sure I liked NSYNC, like most people, but they were a bit young for me. I can say after reading the book, I am now less of a fan, and I can't imagine how he must feel, but oh well that is Karma I suppose.

This was a great read, or in my case a listen. I woke up to it on my phone the day it came out and had it finished before bedtime. It is everything you want in a celebrity memoir, it is packed full of emotion, trauma, and name-dropping. It is raw and honest and gives us some clarity on maybe why Britany is how she is today.

** No rating on the book- I don't feel like I should rate someone's life....**
