Can't Wait Wednesday : Atmosphere

Image
Can't-Wait Wednesday is hosted by Tressa at  Wishful Endings  and gives us a chance to highlight books we are patiently waiting to fill up our TBRs with. ATMOSPHERE BY TAYLOR JENKINS REID pub date: June 3, 2025 I was blown away by Taylor Jenkins Reid's Daisy Jones. I loved the format that she wrote it in, as if you were reading an interview. Maybe it hit as brilliant because at the time I was still working in the music business, interviewing bands, so it resonated with me. She isn't an auto buy, there have been books by her I didn't necessarily love, but a few I have liked, for instance I really enjoyed Malibu Rising, but again, I related to it in some way having grown up in California around the surfing culture. I also love how she had managed to weave Mick Riva into so many of her books. He made an appearance in The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo as one of her husbands and then again in Malibu Rising as the children's absent father. He also has small appearances, o...

Top Ten Tuesdays: Books Set In Another Time

Image
Top Ten Tuesday  was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to  That Artsy Reader Girl  in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.     Books Set in Another Time ( These can be historical, futuristic, alternate universes, or even in a world where you’re not sure when it takes place you just know it’s not right now. ) I found this one a bit difficult and really had to look on my shelves, because I do not read much other than contempory books, Well other than Tudor History and I didn't want to bog you down with 10 books on them. I could have. Several times over LOL. Anyway, I did manage to squeak out 10.... DRACULA BY BRAM STOKER Best Vampire book ever.... When Jonathan Harker visits Transylvania to help Count Dracula with the purchase of a London house, he makes a series of horrific discoveries about his client. Soon afterwards, various bizarre incidents...

VICTORIAN PSYCHO BY VIRGINIA FEITO This is my current read, I just started it last night so I am not very far into it, but if you like creepy psycho Nanny vibes in a book...you should pick this one up!  Now on to the teaser... ' Go to bed, Miss Notty,' Mrs Pounds orders, less cheerily . I nod and obediently close the door upon them, the letter opener still in my hand. I toss it into the basin on the wash stand, whe...

Book Date: It's Monday What Are You Reading

Image
It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? a place to meet up and share what you have been, and are about to be reading over the week. It’s a great post to organize yourself. It’s an opportunity to visit and comment and er… add to your groaning TBR pile! This meme by  Kathryn at   The Book Date Hi guys, boy it was a hard start this morning. Atlas has been out of school for a week due to weather, so we have all been staying up a bit later in the evenings. Yesterday we had to get up and go to SHUL SCHOOL, we live in a small town outside of the city so have a 45 minute drive to get there, and it was hard to get up. This morning Atlas went back to school, and while it was fairly easy to get him up, all of us our dragging. I was up all night sick, I must have eaten something my Crohnes did not like, so we have already planned a very early night tonight! WHAT I FINISHED... Finally finished my Voyage Book, so I am going to get it packaged up and ready to send off when it was time. This book ...

Sunday Salon-- A Slow and Quiet Week

Image
The Sunday Salon is hosted by  Readerbuzz Oh man it was a week, a very cold week. I live in Oklahoma, we are either Southwest or just South, not one really knows, but the point is, it's not a place for a lot of cold weather. We were slammed this week   with temps in the single digits and wind chills is the minus whatever. I know some of you are use to it, but seriously I own a jacket...no coat...I WAS NOT PREPARED. Needless to say I barely stepped foot out the door. Much of the state received snow, and we were suppose to get about 5 inches, but...ugh all we got was ice on ice on ice. I was so thankful that we did not have power outages.  Here are a few pictures I took..the first one is from today of the lingering ice.... and this is the day it was sleeting, freezing, whatever it was ... Atlas was out of school all week, so pretty much we just laid around watching movies, reading and playing games. We were able to get some butter made and several pans of cookies for ...

Stacking The Shelves February 22

Image
Stacking the Shelves, hosted by  Reading  Reality , is  all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, whether physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in a physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts, and, of course,  ebooks!  We spent most of the week stuck at home this week due to an ice storm, but on Friday we were finally able to get out. My husband and Atlas love to go eat breakfast, so we went and ate, then went and bought a few things like laundry soap etc.. at Walmart. While there we roamed through the book section and we bought a few books ( we need go to this section and surprisingly they had a fairly good selection. ) This is what I bought while at Walmart... Gothikana has been on my wish list for a while now and Walmart had a beautiful special edition that I could not resist. It is actually the first special edition I have bought. I loved the title pages... I am sure t...

Book Review: The Snowbirds by Christina Clancy

GOODREADS SUMMARY: Kim and Grant are at a turning point. A couple for thirty years, their "separate but together" partnership is running up against the realities of late middle age: Grant’s mother has died, the college where he taught philosophy was shuttered, and their twin girls are grown and gone. Escaping the bitter cold of a Midwestern winter for the hot desert sun of Palm Springs seems as good a solution as any to the more intractable problems they face. When they arrive at Le Desert, a quirky condo community where everyone knows everyone’s business, Kim immediately embraces the opportunity to make new friends and explore a more adventurous side of her personality. Meanwhile, Grant struggles to find his footing in this unfamiliar landscape, leaving Kim to wonder if their relationship can survive the snowbird season. But when Grant goes missing on a hike in the Palm Springs mountains, Kim is forced to consider two terrifying outcomes: either Grant is truly lost, or this ...
